Potions Class
For Potions class, I have chosen to dye some wool with Kool-Aid. We actually had some in the house. I found a tutorial on-line that uses a crock pot. So here is what I will be dyeing. I believe it is Cascade wool. Maybe half a skein at the most. Plus I used Lemonade and Cherry flavored Kool-Aid.
First I started out by soaking the yarn in a crock pot with water and a little bit of vinegar. I set the crock pot on low, put the cover back on, and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
Then I covered half the yarn with 1 packet of cherry and the other half with 2 packets of lemonade. All I did was sprinkle the Kool-Aid straight from the package into the pot. There are some spots were the two colors blended but that was just fine as it made a pretty shade of orange.
Once the water was clear, I used a spoon to turn the yarn over so the un-dyed yarn was exposed. I then used another packet of Cherry and 2 more packets of Lemonade.
Once the dyeing was complete, I turned off the crock pot and let it sit to cool for a little while. Then I placed the yarn in a colander and let it sit in the sink until completely cool. The yarn was then rinsed and then squeezed the water out. I then used a towel to get out the extra water in the yarn. The yarn was then hung up on a hanger and placed outside for drying.

Muggle Racing
Reporter: Jeff, so are the rumors true about one of the teachers from Hogwarts?Jeff: Yes, they are true. I have fallen under the spell of a witch. She has this great idea to install a flying mechanism to the 31 CAT car. And she thinks that I am the greatest. So how could I resist? I would suggest you watch what you say about her as she is the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and has no problem using muggles as target practice.
Reporter: I will keep that in mind.
Jeff: Good idea.

2. Name the five pieces of equipment that a student of Potions is expected to have.
Cauldron, knife, mortar and pestle, potion making kit and brass scales
3. Give me the name and the person who invented the potion that is used as a remedy for the common cold.
The Pepperup Potion - invented by Glover Hipworth
4. What does the Polyjuice potion do? Name at least four of the ingredients. Tell me at least two of the characters who used this potion in the books and tell me what it did to them.
Polyjuice Potion is used to transform a person into the excact likeness of another. It is made with lacewing flies, leeches, powdered bicon horn, knotgrass, fluxweed, shredded boomslang skin, and a bit of the person being transformed into. Barty Crouch Jr. used the potion to transform into his mother so he could escape from Azkaban prison. Harry Potter and Ron Weasley both used it to turn into Slytherin students to sneak into the Snake Pit and talk with Draco Malfoy about the Heir of Slytherin. (sneaky gits)
5. What is a bezoar and what is it used for?
A bezoar is rare, kidney shaped stone which can be found only in the stomach of a goat. It acts as an antidote to most poisons.
6. Tell me what the Amorentia potion is. What would yours smell like?
Amorentia is the most powerful love potion in the world. Mine would be a mixture of lavender, parchment, and daffodils.
7. Name three Potions ingredients that can be found in the Muggle world. What are each of these items used for in each situation? How to Muggles and Wizards use these things differently?
Moonstone - used in various potions including Draught of Peace. Muggles use it in jewelry.

11. We all know that Remus Lupin is a werewolf. During his time teaching at Hogwarts, Snape makes him the wolfsbane potion to counteract some of these nasty effects. There is one ingredient which Lupin says will render the effects useless. What is this ingredient and why is it important?
Adding sugar to the wolfsbane potion will render it useless even though it would probably make it taste better. Wolfsbane potion tastes really nasty.

Potions Homework - HLBOE Swap
The Potions Mistress keeps the dungeons about as cold as the Arctic with a cold north wind blowing. Okay, so it is not really that cold down there. It just feels like it. Anyway, these lovely fingerless mitts should keep the hands warm when I go down there to see how the students are doing. I am just happy that my office is not in the dungeons. At least I have a window view of the grounds.

The Ghosts of Hogwarts - HLBOE Swap

How many ghosts were there in the Harry Potter series and name them.
There are hundreds of ghosts in the series but there are at least 20 who reside at Hogwarts.
Named Ghost characters:

The Bloody Baron (Slytherin Ghost)
The Grey Lady (Ravenclaw Ghost)
The Fat Friar (Hufflepuff Ghost)
Professor Binns (History of Magic)
Moaning Myrtle (Ravenclaw)
Sir Patrick Delaney-Podmore (leader of the Headless Hunt--a club for decapitated ghosts)

Since Peeves is Poltergeist (an indestructible spirit of chaos), he is not considered a ghost.

The First Term...HLBOE Swap

The term has only barely begun and Andromeda is already tired. But then that is what I get for not getting enough sleep. Eh, I'll just blame Oliver. At least I have a laptop to keep up with the paperwork. Sighing one last time, she went back to work catching up on the paperwork. The candles flickered in the office while silence was all around her. The only noises being heard was the light noises from the house elfs and the taping noises from the laptop.

Welcome to Defense Against the Dark Arts

“The Dark Arts are many, varied, ever-changing and eternal. Fighting them is like fighting a many-headed monster, which, each time a neck is severed, sprouts a head even fiercer and cleverer than before. You are fighting that which is unfixed, mutating, indestructible.”
“Your defences must therefore be as flexible and inventive as the Arts you seek to undo.”
- Severus Snape (HBP9)
Andromeda scowled when she first entered her office. It still had the remnants from when that foul woman Umbridge had occupied the office. What was she thinking with all of the bloody pink? And those kitty dishes all over the walls? Ewwww…. Well, the first thing to happen is a complete gutting of everything. With a sharp flick of her wand, the room was instantly emptied. Now to get to work.
She stared at the pictures of how Professor Lupin had his office. Hmmm, I can do this. Another flick of her wand and the office became a perfect replica of what it used to look like back when Lupin held the post. Much, much better. Just one more thing and it will be complete. Carefully, she placed one portrait on the wall. Stepping back to admire it, she asked the portrait “Well, what do you think?”
“It looks great Andromeda. Nice job.”
“Thank you Professor Lupin.” She grinned at the compliment.
“Andi, you can call me Remus now. You are a Professor. But we should probably get to work.”
“Yes, of course.” Sitting down in the chair for the first time, she grinned again before beginning to work on the coursework for the upcoming school year.

HLBOE Swap

I should be the Slytherin HOH because:
I am completely loyal to Slytherin house. I am also completely dependable and am very good at paying attention to detail. I am also completely accessable as I have my own laptop.
The funniest thing I or my alter ego has ever done:
The best trick I ever played was on my twin sister Avada. Both of us were first years at the time. The funny part was that she wasn't the only Ravenclaw to fall for it. Some of the Slytherin first years made a sign for the library that read "Closed until further notice". That's when we found out that Ravenclaws do not have a sense of humor when it comes to the library. We just couldn't stop laughing. I think that gave us away.
The best trick ever played on me or my alter ego:
This happened back when I was a first year. That was a rough year for me. Constantly being mistaken for my goody two-shoes sister Avada got old really quick. Anyway, Avada knew that I am a huge Puddlemere United fan and had a really big crush on Oliver Wood. She had me convinced that he had died in some horrible accident on the quidditch pitch. I was in tears for days. I nearly knocked her lights out when she told me it was just a joke. Honestly, I didn't think it was funny at all. But I got her back by placing green dye in her shampoo. Her hair was green for an entire week before all of the dye came out.
